The Constitution is our founding document, the contract we’ve made with each other as citizens of a free and democratic republic. Our liberty, our prosperity, and our opportunity to pursue happiness depends on our citizens, but even more importantly our leaders, to honor that contract by observing and respecting the rule of law established in the Constitution. “Our Nation is founded on the principle that observance of the law is the eternal safeguard of liberty and defiance of the law is the surest road to tyranny,” John F. Kennedy in 1962 on resistance to integration.
